Attending to college is an important transition of students to establish their independence. This is a challenging stage for them where they will live on their own and far from their parents and childhood friends. This is the time when students are able to experience freedom.
1. Taking responsibilities.
This is your chance to move out of your comfort zone and work things out on your own. Aside from the course works you need to attend to, you also need to run errands and manage your finances. You shall be the one to look after yourself as your parents are no longer within your reach to assist you. And since you are yet to find friends, you are to depend only to yourself.
2. Starting anew.
College is a new chapter in your life. Would you want to see the same faces in the hallways? Would you want to live in dormitories with people you have been with since you were a kid? It’s not that you are burning bridges. Of course, you shouldn’t forget where you are from. But since you are in a new environment, you should be taking the opportunity to form new friendships.
3. Widening horizon.
When you go to the same college with your old friends, chances are you are also to spend most of your time in college, with them, still. But when you attend a university where nobody knows you, you earn more friends. You do not remain stuck in one group. Besides, you can always keep your communication lines open with your old friends.
College is a place devoted not only for intellectual development. Here, you shall also be trained to improve as an individual, and as a member of the society. So don’t be afraid, it’s fine to know nobody. After all, you’re not alone on that situation.
